Scottow Parish Council

A Parish Council is a Civic Body responsible for the management of village assets which include items such as; bus shelters, its cemetery, signage, village noticeboards, recycling bins, dog waste bins and much more. It also provides a voice for the community on planning matters with principal authorities and developers, the local police and health services.

Scottow Parish Council has a statutory duty to comment on planning applications and also informs the highways department when there are issues related to road conditions as well as traffic, parking, flooding, footpaths and overgrown vegetation.

We review and discuss all aspects of our parish life at our meetings and encourage the public to engage with matters that affect them and the quality of life in our community. Please take a look at the meeting Agenda’s and Minutes for further details.

Your current councillors are:

Cllr. B. Rallison (Chair)
Cllr. S. Fuller (Vice-Chair)
Cllr. M. Adams
Cllr. M. Watts
Cllr. M. Beswick
Cllr. R. Riches

A councillor’s role involves three main areas:

  • Decision-making — Councillors decide which activities to support, where money should be spent, what services should be delivered, and what policies should be implemented by attending meetings and committees.
  • Monitoring — Councillors ensure that their decisions lead to efficient and effective services by monitoring how well things work.
  • Getting involved locally — As local representatives, councillors have responsibilities towards their constituents and local organisations. These responsibilities often depend on what a given councillor wants to achieve and how much time is available.

We are always very pleased to welcome new Councillors onto the Parish Council. If you are interested in local matters and want to make a difference and able to give share some evenings during the year we’d be delighted to hear from you.
